Two steps of assembly sorting and inspecting are performed simultaneously.
Sorting can be broken down into 2 phases:
1. Initial sorting : Sort into groups for delivery to appropriate assembly work station.
- Surgical -Operating Room instruments
- Floor/ward grade instruments
2. Secondary Sorting: Sort instruments at the assembly station by:
- instrument sets,
- types, (ring –handle, scissors, needle holders, tissue forceps, retractors, suction tips).
- like instruments within a group.
