The importance of water in the reprocessing of medical instrumentation will be discussed along with a description of Canadian Standards Association Z314:23 “Annex G, Water Quality.” The different types of water will be explained (Utility, Critical, and Steam Condensate) along with their associated water quality values and use applications will be given. Examples of issues that can be caused by poor water quality will be presented along with preventing these issues from recurring in washing and steam sterilization systems. The monitoring of water quality will be discussed to identify trends prior to them becoming difficult issues.
