Description: 

This session will mainly focus on standards and reference documents, types of water used for reprocessing, various water treatment systems employed by medical device reprocessing departments (MDRDs) and endoscopic device reprocessing departments (EDRDs), breakage risks and how to deal with a breakage as well as the water supply quality assurance program tasked with achieving the quality and safety requirements of MDRDs and EDRDs throughout Quebec.

Meet the Speakers: 

Dr. Mélanie Fortier holds a Bachelor of Science and Ph.D. in physics (with the biophysics and molecular physiology option)
from the Université de Montréal. Mélanie is sector head of equipment planning at the Groupe Biomédical Montérégie of
CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre. She was notably involved in the acquisition as well as the evaluation of several water
treatment systems. Since 2013, Mélanie serves as a biomedical technology advisor for the Centre d’expertise en
retraitement des dispositifs médicaux of the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ). Mélanie coauthored the Qualité de l’eau utilisée en retraitement des dispositifs médicaux (Water quality used for medical device reprocessing) technical sheet published by the INSPQ in 2019.

Andrée Pelletier is a nurse by training and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Montreal. She has been working at the INSPQ as a scientific advisor for the Center of Expertise in Medical Device Reprocessing since 2012. She was a manager for 10 years in an URDM where she was a recipient of the Work Organization and Change Management recognition program. She has been involved in several files, including the creation and implementation of the first medical device traceability software, the realization of the attestation of college studies program and the program for the recognition of acquired knowledge and skills in RDM at the Cégep de St -Laurent, the construction of an RDM center in Ontario with a reprocessing capacity of more than 2,500 trays per day and the revision of Health Canada’s Qmentum RDM program. For more than 20 years, she has participated in the various works of the AQRDM. Andrée is co-author of the technical sheet Quality of water used in the reprocessing of medical devices published by the INSPQ in 2019.
